I have had the privilege to present tai chi and qigong to the Livestrong group at the Briargate YMCA. One of the exercises I present is Guo Lin Walking Qigong that is used at the Shanghai Cancer Recovery Club, as taught to me by a 10-year cancer survivor. While not a substitute for medical treatment and not intended as medical advice (follow the advice of your healthcare provider), I just wanted to share some links with information on this practice.
This link is the most comprehensive with links to videos, etc.: https://www.chinesemedicineliving.com/eastern-philosophy/the-anti-cancer-walk-an-introduction-to-guo-lin-new-qigong-therapy/ Others ..
YAY!!! The construction is finally done, and the Cordera Community Center has a fresh face! We will be resuming classes this Thursday, April 13th, at 11:30 AM. Just a reminder this class is only open to Cordera Community Residents.
Are you a member of the Pikes Peak YMCA?
I'm so excited to announce that, starting February 1st, I will be leading a new tai chi class at the Briargate YMCA!!! The class will be Wednesdays - Noon - 1:00 PM. This class will focus on Tai Chi’s slow movements that are the trademark of this ancient art and health practice, known for its ability to improve balance, calmness, and relaxation. The added emphasis on body mechanics, structure, and form enhances the internal energy flow to foster additional fluidity, strength, and rooting. These attributes cross over to enhance daily activities and improve sports performance. We also will explore breathing exercises and powerful qigong movements that lead to improved health and vitality. The Briargate YMCA is located at 4025 Family Place, Colorado Springs, CO 80920. Again, you must be a member of the Pikes Peak YMCA to participate. COME OUT AND JOIN THE FUN!!! Wow! Hard to believe we are coming to the close of another year. It has been a very fulfilling 2022! I was able to expand my teaching from my independent class at Yoga Studio Satya and the Cordera Community Center to the Downtown YMCA. I am grateful to all who attend. I want to give a shout out to those that completed the 60-movement form in 2022:
When we kick off 2023, I will be presenting a series where we explore Yang Chengfu's 10 Essential of Tai Chi. We take one principle a week and focus on incorporating it into our daily practices. I really enjoy teaching this series, as I feel it lays a solid foundation for one's tai chi practice. I will be doing this at all locations. Thanks again to my Springs Tai Chi community, and I look forward to seeing you in 2023!!! 'Hey! I finally got around to creating a Springs Tai Chi YouTube Channel where I can share videos in answer to questions or just for reference. I have a few videos up of our warm ups and the 'Twister' footwork concept. I also have a playlists of reference that includes my teacher, my tai chi brothers, my Sibok (tai chi uncle), and more! Go ahead and check it out at https://www.youtube.com/@springstaichi

These classes will focus on Tai Chi’s slow movements that are the trademark of this ancient martial art, known for its ability to improve balance, calmness, and relaxation. Well, this is a great time to start! This series is for anyone interested in learning about and experiencing the benefits that tai chi has to offer. Beginning September 21st and running through November 9th, we will be exploring Yang Cheng-Fu’s 10 Essential Principles of Tai Chi. Yang Cheng-Fu is historically credited with bringing tai chi to the public. Each week we will focus on one or two principles. I have taught the series several times, and I find that it lays a great foundation for beginners and gives intermediate and advanced students a chance to revisit the principles at a higher level. Don’t worry if you miss a class, because we will review all the previous principles at the beginning of each class. WE'RE BACK!!!
I am so happy to announce that we have a new venue and can now accept new students! Join us on Tuesdays from 7:30 – 8:30 pm for an all-level level Tai Chi Meet -Up! Our classes are held at Yoga Studio Satya, 1581 York Rd, Colorado Springs, CO 80918. Please wear appropriate exercise clothing and bring shoes that you only wear indoors to protect the studio’s floors (sock feet and bare feet are ok, too). We also ask that when you enter that you do so quietly. There will be a yoga class in session, and we need to keep noise to a minimum. For now, masks/face coverings are required. I am monitoring local guidelines closely, and I will notify everyone when this requirement changes. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Welcome to our tai chi community! |
